With economies as they are, there has been an increase in online activity when it comes to recruitment advertising. Which of course means that the market is even more competitive when it comes to attracting quality candidates through job adverts. It’s essential that all HR and recruitment related endeavors are accompanied by solid HR-SEO strategies and tools, to ensure maximum exposure of your content to the right candidates. All of that aside though - here is some helpful advice to get you started on the basics of a successful job advert or posting.

When wanting to attract the right quality candidate - rely on your Aunty AIDA.  AIDA is not only necessary but vital in attracting the right quality candidate. Aida sells the job ad for you (What an aunty). Use AIDA to gain Attention, attract Interest, create Desire and produce Action. In order for AIDA to do her job you need to focus on 6 key areas of your ad.

1. Attention: The TITLE is what a candidate will search for so make it clear and relevant to the vacant position. Keep it simple but precise and get the clicks you require.

2. Attention: The JOB DESCRIPTION. Remember the phrase, you can always tell a book by its cover. In this case that does not apply. What applies here is the contents. The job description must in the first few lines contain the body of the job. This in itself then takes the reader further into the description.

3. Interest: The ACTUAL JOB. Here is your opportunity to tell the reader what you expect from them in them taking the role. You can tell them the reporting process, who they will report to. It is easier on the eye if the key areas are bullet pointed.

4. Interest: The SKILLS and EDUCATION requirements must be made clear so the candidate knows if they have what you need. This applies to the amount of time in a particular field and educational qualifications.

5. Desire: The BENEFITS are critical to draw the number of candidates. It is better that this is laid out in a precise manner so all parties know from the start what is on offer. This should include salary, pension, company car, healthcare, and the number of holidays.

6. Action: The CONTACT details need to accessible details. By this I mean they should include all communication routes, including your name, e-mail and telephone number. By following this you may save a great fish from falling through the net.

So the next time you’re writing a job ad - just remember; your Aunty AIDA format. This coupled with targeted keywords and strategies for attracting relevant and quality candidates - will guarantee recruitment success.
