We all know how bad the recruitment situation is around the world for most industries badly affected by economic situations. A recent online job site poll conducted by Bayt.com showed the only recruitment sector showing a markable increase this year was online job advertising. Around 16 per cent of the Middle East’s employers said they are hiring more staff than last year and most are advertising primarily online.

A ‘Using Online Job Site’ poll conducted by Bayt.com in June found that more than three quarters of employers who participated in the poll answered that they are going to recruit online. Around 30 per cent said they aim to recruit between one and five professionals, 12 per cent aim to recruit between six and ten professionals, and seven per cent between 11 and 15, while 29 per cent said they will recruit more than 15 professionals.

On an average, an online recruitment site receives 3,000 job seekers with online agencies witnessing a 25 per cent increase in the number of job seekers this year alone. A report by US-based Forrester Research states that the average cost to hire an employee via the Internet is nearly ten times less than through newspapers and magazine advertisements.

That so many are planning to recruit online this year makes it very clear that organisations and employers trust it online job sourcing as a method for finding the very best talent, and that it will likely have an increasingly fundamental role to play in the recruitment strategies of HR departments across the Middle East and the world at large.

At a time when the economic slowdown has made organisations and employers trim their budgets, online recruitment is the most cost-effective means of finding the right candidates for available jobs. The speed of response, ability to cater to a bigger and wider audience and user-friendly interface on jobs websites have contributed to the popularity of online recruitment. More than 52 per cent of the region’s employers said using jobsites is the preferred method of sourcing talent with 21 per cent considering the method to be fast, according to the poll.
